Synopsis

At the end of an avenue, behind an overgrown garden, stands a historic house, home to three generations of women.
This uplifting and funny New Zealand musical examines the impact that the arrival of a handsome young boarder has on life in the house, changing relationships and leading to the potential revelation of a long-kept secret.
A delightful and heart-warming meditation on the changes that occur in families as children grow up, adults age and situations and relationships alter, this show emphasises that the most significant things in our lives may well be those that happen day to day.

Book and Lyrics by Roger Gimblett

Roger Gimblett is an actor writer and director based in Sydney Australia. Originally from Invercargill New Zealand, Roger studied playwriting with Roger Hall. With composer Sally Bodkin-Allen, Roger wrote the musical ‘Flowers At Breakfast’ staged as the 20th anniversary production of Dunedin’s professional Fortune Theatre. Their subsequent children’s show ‘What Santa Does Other Days of the Year’ started life at Invercargill Repertory and was also staged at the Fortune and has received productions in both New Zealand and Australia.
Progress on their next show ’18 Eden Avenue’ was slowed when Roger moved to the UK where he worked for Stoll Moss Theatres in London’s West End. In Australia Roger has written for ABC television and is twice winner of the National One-Act Playwriting competition. His plays have been staged in the UK, India and South Africa as well as all around Australia.
After starting his directing career at Invercargill Repertory, Roger has staged countless plays and musicals and directed the Sydney premieres of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘By Jeeves’ and the musical of Madness songs ‘Our House’. Roger has undertaken short course training in voice and rehearsal technique with the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC).
