Welcome to the Invercargill Repertory Society

About Us

Invercargill Repertory Society Inc. or just Rep which it is fondly known as, has been an Invercargill institution for over 80 years. Since 1936 Rep's mission has been to Promote, Provide and Foster Performing Arts in the community.
Each year Rep produces amateur theatrical productions in our very own purpose-build 140 seat theatre which is available for hire to the public outside our performance schedule. Rep also has an active Youth Drama Department that introduces, trains and performs productions for school-aged children who have an interest in the Performing Arts. If you need a costume or a dress up outfit we also have Invercargill's best Costume Hire Department, Click on the Rep Services link above to find out more.
As a registered charity and a voluntary organisation we rely on many volunteers who spend 100s of hours in all aspects of the Society including management, maintenance, set building, lighting, sound, production, off stage and on stage. Without these amazing people we could not possibly deliver on our mission. If this sounds like you, please feel free to click on our Membership link and fill out an Application form.
We are also thankful to the local community and sponsors who without whose support there would be no Repertory. Enjoy our website, have a troll around and if you need any more information or would like to contact us click on the Contacts link.

From the President

Repertory - a collection of works (plays, songs, operas, ballets) that an artist or company can perform and do perform for short intervals on a regular schedule or from the French, comes repertoire, which means a  "full range of what you can do."

This reflects Repertory Invercargill.  We are local people, who enjoy the theatre and want to pass on our love of the theatre to others.  Each year we hope to be able to entertain, wow, or even be able to leave our Invercargill audiences pondering on what they have just experienced.

What you see when you attend one of our performances, from the director, to the cast, to the backstage crew, set designers and onto our front of house personnel, comes from our dedicated and passionate volunteers.  Along with our regular plays throughout the year, we also have youth drama, a costume hire shop and a great theatre available for hire.

We are fortunate to have some amazing sponsors – special mention and our thanks go to the Invercargill Licensing Trust, the ILT Foundation and the Community Trust of Southland.  However, above all we must thank our members and our audiences – the feedback, commitment and support we receive enables us to show you the “full range of what we can do”.
