Synopsis

To open up our 90th anniversary year with a bang, Repertory Invercargill proudly presents one if our first productions ever. Night Must Fall was first performed at Victoria Hall and directed by Nancy Nicholson in 1936. Night Must Fall is a psychological thriller play by Emlyn Williams that delves into the dark complexities of human nature through the lens of murder and manipulation. Set in a bungalow in Essex, the story revolves around Mrs. Bramson, a domineering and hypochondriacal matriarch, and her interactions with Dan, a charming yet sinister figure who enters their lives amidst the backdrop of a missing woman, Mrs. Chalfont. The play intricately explores themes of deceit, power dynamics, and the unsettling reality that murder can encroach upon everyday existence. With this 90th Anniversary Edition, Jason Fraser has updated the premise, delving deeper into the mind of the characters, in what will be a chilling, re-imagining of this classic thriller.
